Trump is building the Temu arch!
And quickly, too—he wants to break ground two days after the midterms. Plus: Joe Gebbia speaks; a welcome John Berger revival; and a death at Taliesin West

The latest renderings of the Independence Arch, also known as the Arc de Trump, show a design without engaged columns and largely stripped of classical ornament. Via National Capital Planning Commission
While your attention was elsewhere—as you were spending three hours in the company of Elizabeth Holmes and Nathan Fielder, maybe—the Trump administration and the neo-trad firm Harrison Design deposited a whole new tranche of documents on the website of the National Capital Planning Commission. The drawings, renderings, and other materials depict a far more detailed version of the New Monumental Arch in Memorial Circle, as the architects call it, than the public has yet had a chance to see. The monument, set to rise 250 feet above a grassy traffic circle near Arlington National Cemetery, has also been dubbed the Independence Arch and, for its similarity to the 19th-century Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the “Arc de Trump.”
The new materials suggest that the president is determined to break ground as soon as the NCPC signs off on the project, which it’s widely expected to do at its next meeting, on Nov. 5. The administration confirmed as much on Wednesday, filing a motion in U.S. District Court indicating that “construction could commence as early as November 5, 2026.” That’s two days after the midterms, for the record. And it seems to be in line with an earlier ruling from a federal judge, Tanya Chutkan, requiring the administration to provide two weeks’ notice before starting work.
